Chipotle IQ test returns with BOGO offer, gift cards and tricky trivia questions

Chipotle Mexican Grill is offering some relief from inflation with a rare “buy one, get one free” discount thanks to the return of its popular quiz show.

Why is this important: Like other restaurants, Chipotle has repeatedly raised prices and said last month it plans to raise prices by about 4% in August to help offset rising ingredient and wage costs.

Driving the news: The fast-casual channel will be offering BOGO deals to the first 100,000 players to achieve a perfect 10 out of 10 score on the Chipotle IQ game every day through August 26 on a special website.

  • The game restarts every day until Friday at noon ET, while supplies last.
  • The questions are multiple-choice, true or false, and written-response.
  • Fans with a perfect score will also unlock an additional credit question and, when entered correctly, will be entered to win one of 50 $500 gift cards, according to a press release.

Between the lines: Businesses are looking to build customer loyalty through offers to increase online sales and build larger customer databases, which helps them gain more data and personalize offers.

Be smart: The questions are tricky for even the biggest Chipotle fans who may want to read old press releases to find out how many employees got promotions in 2021 as well as the company’s retraining goal.

  • The company says fans “will have an unlimited number of tries to achieve a perfect score.”

Rollback: Chipotle first launched the quiz in August 2020 and distributed 250,000 BOGO offers within four hours of the game going live.
